WEAPON POLICY

The Upstate NY Comic Con’s mission with each show is to enforce the safety for all individuals attending. It is our priority to ensure each person feels safe and accepted in an environment meant for fun and entertainment. With this said, the Upstate NY Comic Con implements a strict no-weapon policy prohibiting weapons of any variety into the convention.

The following list is not meant to be all-encompassing and the Upstate NY Comic Con reserves the right to prohibit additional items not listed in this policy below.

“Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:

  • Firearms of any kind (including air soft guns, BB guns, cap guns, paintball guns, and pellet guns)
  • Replica firearms (including reproductions, or toy guns that can be confused for actual firearms)
  • Any projectile weapons (including blow guns, crossbows, long bows, silly string, slingshots, water balloons, and water guns)
  • Bladed weapons (including axes, daggers, hatchets, knives and swords, sword canes, and switch blades)
  • Explosives of any type (including black powder, firecrackers, and fireworks)
  • Chemical weapons (including mace and pepper spray)
  • Blunt weapons (including bats, mallets, brass knuckles, clubs, and any type of martial arts weapon)
  • Prop weapons made of anything besides soft plastic or foam.

** Please note that any replica or prop weapon purchased from a Vendor at the convention must remain in the packaging until you leave the event.

The Upstate NY Comic Con exhibitors and volunteers reserves the right to check any/all bags carried in by vendors, staff, attendees, and patrons of the convention. The Upstate NY Comic Con also reserves the right to deny admission to individuals attempting to bring any prop into the show deemed unacceptable by staff.

Whether just for attending the convention or for cosplay competitions, we encourage fans and guests to continue bringing their amazing costumes to our show. We understand that weaponry is part of the overall presentation, but we hope everyone understands these measures that have been put into place ensuring the safety for all. Please continue showing your amazing costumes as you deserve to show off your hard work, time, and dedication.

If, after reading this policy, you are still uncertain whether the object you’re considering will be within these guidelines, our recommendation is that you leave it at home, or else be willing to return it to your vehicle or hotel room should security/UNYCC Volunteers doing the assessment deem it unacceptable.

All Attendees, Exhibitors, Sponsors, Associates, and Guests of the Upstate NY Comic Con are subject to this weapon policy for the duration of the entirety of the event, including any events on the premises.
